Nairobi

Hi!

We made it to Nairobi, safe and sound!  It was a LONG day, as we had a flight to Calgary, a 6 hour layover, followed by two more eight hour flights!  We arrived to Nairobi airport at 8 pm but it took us until 9:30 to get out of there!  It was a bit busy!!!  We arrived at our hotel twenty minutes later and we were all impressed, as it is beautiful!!  By the time we received our room keys and had a briefing, we were ready for bed!!

This morning  the ladies were given long stem roses at the restaurant in celebrations of Valentines Day! We had a longer meeting to inform us of what to expect for our tour.  We were pleasantly surprised when they gave each of us a safari hat, a Masaii blanket and a beautiful book about Kenya!!
We met our five driver guides for the tour.  The names of our groups are those of the African "Big Five": Lions, Elephants, Cape Buffalo, Leopards and Rhinos!

Our first excursion was to a baby Elephant orphange where we got to hear about the project as well as see the elephants and watch them bottle feed themselves! Some people even got close enough to pet them!🐘

Then we went to the Karen Blixen Giraffe Center where we got "up close and personal" with the giraffes.  We got to feed them from our own hands but then it got ebpven more exciting when we put a pellet in our lips to feed them!  We all got "very special" Valentines kisses! 😘

We then went to the Karen Blixen Estate where we had a lovely lunch in a beautiful setting!  The buffet was huge and we had a wonderful selection of grilled meat, including rabbit!  I ate some and I felt very "hoppy"!  After lunch we visited the Karen Blixen museum where we heard her story and toured her home. (This is the lady that wrote "Out of Africa").

On our way back to the hotel we drove through the CBD of Nairobi and drove up to where we could get a panoramic view.  It is quite an experience to drive through Nairobi.  They told us that the traffic today was light because it is Sunday, I can't imagine what a weekday will be like but we will find out tomorrow!

Tomorrow we head out of the city and we will be staying at a lodge called "The Ark", which had a large watering hole where the animals will come to us!  We are excited!

I will write again when we have good wifi!
